I’m Trained to Kill

Today we have a great guest post from ZAP Strategist Angie Richmond. She’s been making forays into Weapon Utilisation Skills to report back to YOU, the ZAP Warriors on how to be a more effective zombie hunter in case of…apocalypse. You know. Useful stuff.

I’m a card-carrying #ZAP Warrior. I’ve accepted the challenge to prepare my body and mind for the Zombie Apocalypse so when shit goes down, I’m ready. I’ve started running on my treadmill, taking the stairs ALL THE TIME and putting healthy food into my body. Errrr, most of the time. Wine is a food group, right?

But there’s one aspect of #ZAP I’ve been neglecting – the part that is by far the coolest aspect of #ZAP – the kicking ass part!

I need some skills, yo! It’s all fine and dandy to run from those zombie mutha’s, but sometimes you just gotta stand up and fight *cue ass-kicking music*

Zombies? DEAD.

The first skill I set out to acquire was archery. There was only one problem with this, okay maybe two. I’m not what you’d call athletic or coordinated. So although I have nursed a burning desire to learn archery for many years, those two factors have stopped me. The combination of #ZAP and a friend’s persistent encouragement to just try, finally gave me the courage to give it a go.

So I swallowed my fear of impaling myself and/or others and went. Let me tell you my pretties, I LOVED it!

My first shot was pathetic. It flew passed the closer target and hit the wall no-where near anything. But hey, I’m a #ZAP Warrior, so I kept at it. After two hours I had progressed enough to enter smug mode.  (Do I have any Red Dwafers in my midst?)

Was I the best archer? Nope.

Did I manage to hit the targets? You betcha!

Was I aiming for those particular targets when they found their mark? No comment.

Was I cocky anyway? Absolutely, but it was all in good joking fun!

Bonus: I didn’t impale ANYONE and walked away unscathed myself. Look ma! No bruises!

Archery focuses on toning your upper body whilst you become a kick-ass fighting machine. It takes concentration, strength and a steady hand. But don’t worry if you haven’t mastered these three skills because like most things in life, practice makes perfect!

As for me, I plan on making archery a regular part of my #ZAP training. I like that fact that I’m expanding my knowledge and building strength in the process. It’s called being well-rounded, people!  I want to be the kind of person people want on their zombie fighting team!

Let’s all welcome the awesome Strategist Richmond into to our battalion of ZAP Officers! Go check out her blog, follow her on Twitter, and show her some love in the comments! If you want to know more about her archery exploits, go here. What weapons do YOU want to learn to proficiency? Katanas? Claymores? Bo staff? Sound off, ZAP Warriors!

I competed way back in college (yikes! more than 20 years ago!), and this makes me want to start up again. Maybe I will…

I fell in LOVE with archery when my brother-in-law gave me a lesson this summer. I want to get my own bow. And various other items that will make me look more badass to myself, and substantially less socially acceptable to most of humanity.

Ha! Yup, that pretty much sums up archery. 🙂

Man, I totally wish I had the money to go back to the firing range. I am afraid of guns, sort of, even when they are in my hand. So many accidents with guns, they never feel safe even when they are unloaded. In fact, my cousin died from a gun accident. But, I also feel very empowered and exhilarated. And I have to say, I’m not a bad shot. Mr. Happy (my target with the smiley face drawn on can attest to that…) Alas… target shooting at a range can be quite expensive. Maybe I just have to focus on my cardio for the ZA now. LOL

I’m headed back to cardio tomorrow after a week of being sort of laid up sick. And by that I mean that I’ve been mostly dead all week. Where’s Fezzik when you need him?

I love archery. I picked it up a few years ago and found it was a great stress reliever. Also calmed my brain down. 🙂

I really enjoy it — plus, it’s one of the few sports that I feel comes naturally to me.

I want to learn archery too. Especially the crossbow. 😀
