Did anyone else know Google does BIRTHDAY DOODLES? I sure didn’t. How exciting! Look at all the cake! Mmmm, cake.
It’s been a long time since I’ve updated over here, and for that I’m sorry. The last month and a half have been chock full of many things, and cake isn’t really one of them (for the most part — there has been occasional cake). I was on my first panels at Capclave, which was super exciting. That happened right after Spouse and I moved into a new apartment (now with 100% LESS MOLD!), Kristin was here to visit, and then I started a shiny new work schedule. And now it’s NaNo, so naturally I’m chest deep in a new novel. Okay, perhaps knee deep. I’M WORKING ON IT, OKAY?! *hyperventilates*
I was Skyping with my best friend Julia late Saturday night (or Sunday afternoon, if you’re in Japan like she is), and we realized that the last time I did any sort of party-ish thing for Birth of Emmie Day, it was in 2006 when she flew to Poland to see me, risking her almost-expired UK visa in the process. The last few years, it’s been me and Spouse, which is great, but this year I decided to have a few people over to increase my exposure to cake. (HA, Jules, remember that godawful cake Martina and Adam got me that year? What WAS it? I just remember everyone’s disgusted expressions while they chewed and tried to figure it out…)
SO! This year. I’m 29! I’m really excited about that! Some people get squirrelly the closer 30 comes, but I’m personally excited. Things keep improving round these parts, and as the purrgling kitteh atop my lap will tell you, getting older just means you can reach things that previously made you fall on your face.
And guys, this week is going to be awesome. I don’t usually go all out and do a week long celebration for Birth of Emmie Day, but it kind of turned out that way this year. Today we’re having a few people over for games, food, and caramel apple sangria (yup). Spouse is taking me shopping, which is out of character for both of us — but since I think we’re buying me leather pants and a knife, I think it’s cool. I get to finally get new glasses, and tomorrow’s my last day of work for the week.
Why, you ask?
WELL LET ME WHISPER IT INTO YOUR EAR TRUMPET, O GENTLE VIEWER.
This week’s a super special Birth of Emmie Week because on Thursday, I’m flying to California for Creation Entertainment’s Salute to Supernatural!
Not only have I been saving and planning for this since about April, this’ll be my first fan convention. I’ve got a costume, I’ve got my photo ops lined up, and I THINK I even know what I am going to ask Felicia Day to sign. The whole thing is just such a special deal for me, and I haven’t really done anything like this for myself in…well…ever, really.
Shaddap, Crowley. No getting your demon smoke all over my happy fun week. *blows raspberry*
Anyway, this weekend will be full of all things Supernatural, and I could not be more excited. I’ll be reporting for Searching for SuperWomen AND one of our other fabulous Magetech troupe members will also be in attendance. Yep, I actually get to hang out with the awesome Shauna Granger in person thanks to Debra Kristi’s giveaway!
So, in no particular order, here’s what I’m excited for this week:
Leather pants. Because leather pants.
Getting to show off my buddy Chris’s kick-ass necklace
Cake (worth repeating)
Meeting Felicia Day. I’ve been a fan of hers since Buffy, and I have such a tremendous amount of respect for what she’s created since. I really cannot wait to meet her. I’ve always been a huge RPG gamer and in love with fantasy RPGs in particular, so naturally when I found out that she was getting involved with my new (well, new then) favorite franchise, Dragon Age, I about fell over. She’s awesome. She keeps turning up in the things I love most. SHE MUST BE PSYCHIC. I cannot wait.
The karaoke party. I still have a slightly terrifying idea that I’d love to do, but seeing as how they randomly choose people to sing, I don’t know if I’d get the chance. BUT IT COULD BE EPIC. Or completely bewildering. BUT MAYBE EPIC.
Meeting J-*FLAILS*. Lemme try that again. Meeting Jared and Jensen! GAH. Do I need to say more? No? Maybe. I’ll leave it there.
MISHA! Misha! I don’t have a photo op ticket for him, which is a major bummer. *salutes — Major Bummer!* (/HIMYM reference) BUT I’m just thrilled that he was able to change around his schedule and come to BurCon. He wasn’t on the docket when I got my ticket, and I bounced through the house when I heard the news that he’d be coming after all.
Anyway. I think I’m starting out my 30th year on this rock in style. (Yes, I’m 29 today. Yes, this is Year 30 of Emmie Life. Because math.)
And because I didn’t yet include a Sam GIF…..
