Whole 30 Update: 10 Days In

A couple of weeks ago, I told you how Spouse and I were embarking on a 30-day dietary shift. We are ten days in, and I thought I’d give you a report on how we’re doing.

I am still sick.

Two weeks ago, I was just starting this awful crapgasm of illness. Last night my head stuffed up like someone had poured snot into it, and my ears feel like I took a bicycle pump to them. I need to go back to the doctor, stat. Persistent cough, achy muscles, I feel like I’m just getting sick all over again. Just when I was starting to get better.

I have lost about a full size. (So has Spouse.)

We’re not weighing ourselves, but my trousers are fitting looser, and I feel smaller. We’ll see in a couple weeks.

Spouse is bored with our food.

Which means we need to bump up the creativity if we’re going to be eating this way for another 20 days. Tonight we’re having pork chops and ratatouille. That should be a nice switcheroo.

That’s it for now. If you have any menu ideas that fit the Whole 30 guidelines (no dairy, grains, legumes, or added sugar), let me know!

Emmie, are you taking vitamins? Do it! Ratatouille is one of my favourite meals and also can be really delish in an omelette or fritatta or on a toasted pita, pizza-style (add a little goat cheese if that’s allowed). Hope you feel better soon.

Check out the recipe index at http://nomnompaleo.com/. It’s just one of many great online resources for paleo recipe ideas.

Squash is usually pretty economical. Make spaghetti, substituting spaghetti squash. Bake acorn squash stuffed with a sauteed combo of sausage, mushrooms, and onions. Try meatloaf with a side of garlic mashed cauliflower instead of potatoes. Saute greens. Cook spare ribs in the slow cooker and add saurkraut at the end. Make kale chips or beet chips for an awesome snack. Oven roast an assortment of vegetables with different spices. Cauliflower is great with curry powder. Start an indoor pot of your favorite herb. Herbs are magic!

Congrats on your 10 day mark. Keep going! As miserable as you feel, it sounds like your body is healing.
